Marching for Peace

Marching for Peace

We march to win a bloodless victory

So peace can overcome the dogs of war.

We march to keep alive the memory

That together we have won so much before.

Today we march to stop them bombing Syria;

We’ve done the same before to save Iran;

We’ve learned the bitter lessons of Libya

And demand the troops should leave Afghanistan.

Two million marched against war with Iraq –

We knew the case was made by telling lies.

It took eight years to bring the soldiers back.

The devastation left was no surprise.

Now the government performs its usual tricks –

It seems old dogs won’t learn what they are taught –

The media throw mud and hope it sticks,

But unlike them the movement won’t be bought.

A dozen years we’ve marched supporting peace,

And our rulers know we’ll march a dozen more.

Until they stop their bombings we won’t cease

From marching arm in arm with StoptheWar.
