King's Lynn Campaigns

I was a BECTU union branch secretary at the BBC, and this experience enabled me to play a key role in shaping the active period of campaigns by the newly formed King’s Lynn and District Trades Union Council (KL&DTUC). I also helped launch King's Lynn Coalition of Resistance (KLCoR) and the Fenland People's Assembly, and I supported King's Lynn Against Welfare Reform (KLAWR)

After joining the GMB, I became Publicity Officer of the KL&DTUC, and then President in 2013.

I persuaded the Trades Council and the GMB to support the anti-incinerator campaign (KLWIN), and encouraged them to get involved in supporting a wide-range of other campaigns in the area. I photographed and made numerous videos of activities organised by the Trades Council and others, as well as designing the Trades Council banner and publicity.

In 2017 the Eastern Daily Press included me in an article with the title 'So is protesting still worth it these days?'

As part of the 'Bonfire of Austerity' activities on 5 November 2013, the Fenland People's Assembly organised a 'Pin the Blame on Cameron (and Clegg)' event in King's Lynn.

Local people were invited to write a message to the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister and pin it onto a two-faced guy, wearing masks of the two leaders. The guy was then burnt at a bonfire party, and the messages will be sent to the Prime Minister through the local MP.
