For Ursula Le Guin

For Ursula K. Le Guin

by William Alderson

I dreamt you got the Nobel Prize

And cried out “Yes!”,

Punching the air in surprise,

Before I asked “For literature or peace?”

Through fictions you could realise

The truth for us.

Lightly clothed in a disguise

Of literary lightyears and centuries,

You showed that under other skies,

Vietnamese

Or Gethenian, the lies

Are just as hateful as under this.

(2014)

I have written a brief blog in tribute to

Ursula Le Guin (21/10/29 – 22/1/18)
